Hide Your Facebook Status From Specific Friends

Ever want to post a status update on Facebook, but didn’t want all of your friends to read it? Unfortunately, due to social pressure, it’s impossible to not be friends with certain people on Facebook.

In those cases where you are stuck being friends with someone who you don’t like and don’t want to know certain things about you, there is a way to hide your Facebook status update from only certain friends.

This is a great feature of Facebook and one that many people will probably use pretty often! Here’s how you do it.

First, type in your status update like you normally would. Once you are finished, do not click Share! Instead click on the little lock icon that is located to the left of the Share button.

When you click on it, you’ll see a set of options. By default, it is set to Friends Only. This means that only your friends can view your status update. Other options include Everyone, Friends and Networks, Friends of Friends, and Customize.

The other options are pretty self-explanatory. In our case, we will choose Customize so that we can hide our status from individual people.

Now the Custom Privacy dialog will appear and you can choose to either make the status visible to certain people or you can choose to hide the status from certain people.

In our case, you can start typing names into the Hide this from box and this will ensure that these friends will not see your status update in their News Feed! Pretty nifty!
In case you’ve been confused with all the recent privacy changes going on with Facebook, you might want to check out your main privacy settings to ensure your status updates are not being displayed to the whole world.

You can do that by going to Account at the top right and choose Privacy Settings.

Now you will see the Sharing on Facebook section, which basically breaks it down into Everyone, Friends of Friends, Friends Only, Recommended, and Custom. I personally choose Custom to ensure Facebook doesn’t try to make all my information public.

Here you can ensure that your information is not shared with everyone. You can control it download to your birthday and email address also if you like. Enjoy!
